"As a local lad born and bred I was really sad to leave Runcorn FC in the mid-80s. I went on to play for Altrincham, Telford and Witton Albion. While these were good clubs, especially Telford United where we had some really good FA Cup runs, it was never quite like playing for your home town team. After all I didn’t just play for Runcorn I was also a supporter. Like all the other lads my age I used to idolise Pengy, Eddie Moss and Alan Ryan. Who could forget beating the mighty Notts County? So to play for the same football club as you supported was brilliant, I was very lucky. I was also really honoured to find out that I had set a record of playing the most consecutive games (303) for my home town team.

"I still live in Runcorn and so it made sense for me to continue playing in local footy with Mond Rangers, Gen Chems and, most recently, Runcorn Albion (what a brilliant job the Bazley’s do of keeping the club flourishing and bringing on young talent). I can still be found playing 5-a-siding it every Sunday morning. However, for the last 3 seasons Saturday afternoons have been taken up playing rugby union with a great set of lads at Helsby Rugby Union Football Club.

"Work-wise I enjoyed a long period of employment at Halton (now Riverside) College as a Business Studies lecturer and then Head of Department. I moved on from there to South Cheshire College, as Staff Development Manager. From South Cheshire I moved to Edge Hill University, Ormskirk. I began as a Senior Lecturer in professional development and am currently Head of Postgraduate Professional Development.

"I was really saddened when Runcorn moved away from Canal Street and the inevitable decline that followed. I always look for their results and really admire the hard work that has gone on to resurrect the club by those who were always the best thing about Runcorn FC, the supporters. I’m sure it won’t be long now before the club move back to Runcorn and then are able to go from strength to strength."
